ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for the Malta Startup Visa, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Be a non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizen.
- Have an innovative and scalable business idea with potential for international growth.
- Submit a comprehensive business plan including a description of the innovation, market opportunity, competitive advantage, financial forecasts, and expected economic impact in Malta.
- The business must either be newly established in Malta, or relocated from abroad.
- The applicant must play an active role in the business and hold a minimum 15% share.
- Initial funding of at least €25,000 is required. For each additional co-founder applying for the visa, an extra €10,000 is required (up to a maximum of six founders).
- Must demonstrate that they have sufficient financial means to support themselves and any dependents.
- Startup projects must be endorsed by Malta Enterprise, the national economic development agency.
APPLICATION PROCESS
- Prepare a Business Plan
Develop a strong business plan detailing your innovative idea, market research, financial model, and how the business will contribute to Malta’s economy. - Obtain Endorsement from Malta Enterprise
Submit your business plan to Malta Enterprise. If approved, you will receive an endorsement letter required for the visa application. - Gather Financial and Identity Documents
Collect supporting documentation such as proof of funding, personal bank statements, a valid passport, and proof of accommodation in Malta. - Submit Visa Application
Submit your visa application to Residency Malta Agency along with the Malta Enterprise endorsement letter and required documents. - Relocate and Launch Your Startup
Upon approval, you can move to Malta, receive your residence permit, and begin operations. Residence permits are initially valid for 3 years, renewable for an additional 5 years based on the company’s progress.
