NEW ZEALAND SKILLED MIGRANT CATEGORY (SMC)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Be 55 years old or younger
  • Have a skilled job offer from a New Zealand employer (most cases)
  • Hold recognized qualifications or work experience related to the job
  • Demonstrate English language proficiency (e.g., IELTS 6.5 or equivalent)
  • Be in good health and character
  • Score the minimum points threshold (currently 180 points, as of 2024)

APPLICATION PROCESS
  1. Calculate Your Points
    Use the official points system to assess your eligibility based on your qualifications, work experience, age, and job offer.
  2. Submit Expression of Interest (EOI)
    Create an online profile and submit your EOI to Immigration New Zealand (INZ). EOIs are reviewed regularly, and those meeting the current threshold are selected for an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
  3. Receive Invitation to Apply (ITA)
    If selected, you’ll receive an ITA and must submit a complete application with supporting documents.
  4. Submit Skilled Migrant Application
    Provide proof of identity, job offer, qualifications, language test, medicals, and police clearance.
  5. Receive Residence Visa
    Once approved, you and your family can live, work, and study in New Zealand as permanent residents.
